Baby and Toddler Story Time

These 20-30 minute story times are full of books, songs, rhymes and fingerplays for children birth to two years old. Our Baby and Toddler Story Time is a great way to introduce your child to language skills in a positive and fun environment. With slightly more activity and movement than our lap times, children and their grownups are encouraged engage with the books and songs and to actively participate in the program. First session is at 10:00 and the second is at 11:00. Please plan to attend only one of the identical sessions.

Family Story Time

Story time fun for the entire family, these 30-40 minutes story times are packed full of books and activities designed to be enjoyed by all ages.  Promoting language and literacy skills, these story times are a great way to further your child’s lifelong love of reading and learning. Children and their grownups are encouraged to actively engage and participate with the stories and activities during the program.

Women's History Bike Tour

Join Washington Area Bicyclist Association's Women and Bicycles group for a ride through women's history! This bike ride, open to all ages and genders, will visit three library branches with activities surrounding a moment in women's history at each stop.

Does your child want to learn about Martin Luther King, Jr.? Rosa Parks? The Honorable Thurgood Marshall? Jackie Robinson? Children will be invited to re-enact famous scenes from African-American History and will learn about these individuals and much more! Families are welcome to attend.

Frederick Douglass Birthday Celebration

Come to the Anacostia Neighborhood Library to celebrate the birthday of Frederick Douglass! The Frederick Douglass National Historic Site will be partnering with the library to offer a program on the occasion of the great Mr. Douglass's 198th birthday. The event will begin with a story time program for children, which will be followed by a presentation about the new historic site honoring Harriet Tubman. The event will conclude with a look at the many visitors to Frederick Douglass's home of Cedar Hill, and will explore some of the stories that were told about Douglass's home.
