Civic Leadership Youth Club

The Shepherd Park Civic Leadership Youth Club will introduce kids to basic principles of community civics and social justice movements, empowering them to explore new ideas and tools for change as well as developing life-long leadership skills. This May, we will be focusing on activities celebrating diversity and inclusion.  Best for ages 9 and older.

Friday Game Day

After the school day is done, come to the Anacostia Library for some Friday fun!  Join us on last Friday of the every month at 4 p.m. for Game Day in the children's room! There will be board and Wii games available to play and enjoy. Light refreshments will be served.

Spring Egg Hunt and Story Time

The event will be outdoors, weather permitting. Egg baskets will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. The egg hunt will last until all eggs have been retrieved.  Story time will begin at 11 a.m.  Ages 8 and younger.

Environmental Film Festival: Children's Films

Four short films celebrating nature will be shown in the Children's Story Room on the second floor.  Featured are two films based on children's books and two films about life in the ocean. Suggested age for all films is 2-5.

Shooting Stars Dance Class

Shooting Stars is Back! The hip-hop and modern class for young dancers ages 6-12 meets on Thursdays from 4:30-7:30 p.m. Class list will be determined by attendance on Jan. 8, Jan. 15, and Jan. 22, so come those dates to get a slot, as the program fills up fast. Students will create choreography, sets, and costumes, and class will culminate in a recital at the end of April.

Kids LOVE Karaoke

Celebrate National Karaoke Week with "Kids Love Karaoke," a special program to encourage confident public reading and singing as well as supportive listening in children ages 5-10.  Do you love to watch and sing along with contestants on American Idol and The Voice? Petworth Neighborhood Library will give you the opportunity to have fun while practicing and showing off your vocal gifts in a supportive, friendly environment before you get discovered by the pros!
