Spring Seed Starting Workshop

Start your garden planning right by learning about the best ways to get seeds started. In this workshop, library staff will demonstrate a few techniques and simple tools you can use to make the most of early planting. This will be a fun, interactive session. All experience levels are welcome.

Inspiring the Me I Want to Be: Marian Anderson

Teaching artist Tom Minter and DC Public Librarians will lead an interactive program for all ages about Marian Anderson, a renowned African American singer who overcame discrimination to be trained and perform in noted venues such as the Metropolitan Opera House. The audience will have many opportunities to sing along and participate.

Puppy Dog Tales

Reading aloud to dogs can help build a child’s confidence in reading. Children in grades K-3 can sign up for 20-minute reading slots to read to a dog. Dogs and owners will be joining us from ​Therapy Pets Unlimited, a non-profit organization that specializes in providing therapy dogs for community programs and events. Please come into the library or call 202-698-0183 to sign up for a slot. Sign up starts March 1.

Join us in the Great Hall for a screening of the DC Independent Film Festival movie Snowblind, the remarkable story of Rachael Scdoris, the 23-year-old blind woman who competed in the Iditarod dogsled race. Film to be followed by a Q&A session with director Vikram Jayanti.
