Chess and Checkers Club Mondays

Students are invited to learn and play chess and checkers on Mondays. Lessons and play will start at 4 p.m. and continue into the evening for all who are interested. All ages and levels are encouraged to come and join the fun! There will be prizes for children who participate. Chess and checkers will help students to continue to develop their critical thinking skills in a safe, fun and competitive environment. Mr. Lawrence, our children’s librarian, will be in charge of instruction and coordination. We hope to see you here!!!

Whether you've been playing for years, or are interested in learning, come join us for an evening of chess! All ages and experience levels welcome.  The Chess Club meets in the first floor meeting room.

Chess Instruction for Children and Teens

Join master chess instructor Vaughn Bennet as he leads and instructs children and teens in winning strategies for playing chess. Don't forget to pick up your copy or place a hold on Chess for Children by Sabrina Chevaness. Best for ages 5 years to 16 years.

Learn to Play Chess

It's your move! Learn to play chess, improve your game, or practice your moves with other players.  This drop-in group is open to all ages and experience levels and meets every Tuesday and Thursday at 6 pm.

Chess for Kids

Weekly chess instruction for kids of all ages. Our master chess instructor will guide you from learning the basics to advancing your level of skill. Made possible by the Friends of the Cleveland Park Library.

Big Chair Chess Club...For Kids!

Our experienced chess instructor, Mr. Norman, has a spot at the table reserved for you! Come learn the basics or hone your skillful strategies. Especially appropriate for ages 6 and older.  

Last Day of Summer Reading!

Today is the official last day of Summer Reading.  If you haven't turned in your reading log, please bring it in and get your prizes!  We'll be drawing winners for our Children's Summer Reading raffles at the End of Summer Reading Party on September 3rd. 

Summer Reading Ongoing!

Summer Reading is ongoing from now until August 31st.  Please remember to turn in your reading logs and claim your prizes!  You can also still sign up!
