Environmental Film Festival: Children's Films

Four short films celebrating nature will be shown in the Children's Story Room on the second floor.  Featured are two films based on children's books and two films about life in the ocean. Suggested age for all films is 2-5.

Poetry Writing Workshop for Kids

Like animals? Think you'd like to be a poet? Hear a few animal poems and then try making your own! Appropriate for ages 6-10.

Eggs-quisite Colors of Easter!

"Eggs-quisite Colors of Easter" is a b.y.o.b.e. ("bring your own boiled eggs") event.  :) Dress for mess: wear your brightest, pastel-iest "play clothes" and bring a small basket of up to four plain boiled eggs for some Easter fun! We will enjoy an Easter-themed stories, dye and decorate our eggs and take pictures of the visual eggs-quisiteness of it all! We will supply the non-toxic food color dye, stickers, crayons and markers for the egg decoration. This program is appropriate for children ages 3-7 years old.

Kids LOVE Karaoke

Celebrate National Karaoke Week with "Kids Love Karaoke," a special program to encourage confident public reading and singing as well as supportive listening in children ages 5-10.  Do you love to watch and sing along with contestants on American Idol and The Voice? Petworth Neighborhood Library will give you the opportunity to have fun while practicing and showing off your vocal gifts in a supportive, friendly environment before you get discovered by the pros!
Homework Zone

Parklands-Turner Homework Zone

The Parklands Turner Library staff cares about the education and wellbeing of the youth in the community, and invites local school aged children ages 8 to 15 to visit the Parklands-Turner branch library on Wednesdays for a unique study hall opportunity outside of the school classrooom. On Wednesday nights the library will establish a calm study enviornement called The Homework Zone.  It will be availiable from 3:00pm to 6:00pm in the children's area.

Lemonade Day is a community-wide educational program designed to teach kids how to start, own and operate their own business through a lemonade stand. Give kids the opportunity to learn valuable life skills through real-life experience! Hidden History of Juneteenth

On the eve of Emancipation Day, which celebrates when President Abraham Lincoln signed the Compensated Emancipation Act in 1862, noted Historian C. R. Gibbs will lecture on the Hidden History of Juneteenth, which celebrates the liberation of black American slaves in Texas on June 19, 1865.  Best for ages 13 and older.

Words and Rhythm -- Open Mic

Open Mic Family Poetry Come enjoy an afternoon of poetry against a backdrop of smooth sounds in celebration of National Poetry and Jazz Appreciation Month. Participants are encouraged to sign up at the Woodridge Interim Library or at woodridgelibrary@dc.gov by April 19, 2015. Best ages 7 years and up.
