Summer Reading Kickoff Celebration

Join your Southeast Neighborhood Library to celebrate the start of Summer Reading!  10 a.m. to 12 p.m.: All ages can enjoy hero-themed crafts and activities, plus snacks and a superhero photo booth 11 a.m.: Hero story time for families with children ages 0-8.

To kick off Summer Reading, join us for this special Family Story Time, featuring books, songs, and other fun about heroes.  While you are at the library, sign up for Summer Reading. Also, make superhero-themed crafts following story time.   This year's Summer Reading theme is Every Hero Has a Story.

Butterfly Lesson and Craft

Children can learn about butterflies through a brief story time with fiction and nonfiction books, and then make their own butterfly to take home. For ages 6-12.  

Father’s Day Story Time and Crafts

Children can enjoy a brief story time focused on father figures. Afterward, they can make a special present to give to their father figures on Father’s Day.

Summer Reading Kickoff

Start your summer off by signing up for DC Public Library's Summer Reading Program! Swing by the Petworth Neighborhood Library for this fun event and enjoy a day of laughter and sunshine.   At 10:30, we’ll have a special hour long story-time on the lawn with parachute games. Enjoy more festivities from 12-4 p.m.; we’ll have crafts, a movie, an animation workshop, and more!

Early Literacy Workshop: Sing, Talk, and Read

Come learn the skills your children need to be ready to learn to read. We'll share tips on how to promote early literacy at home in this interactive presentation in the Children's Room on the Second Floor of the library. Your children are welcome: Every child will receive a free book.   The program is for parents and caregivers of children ages birth to 5.

Preschool Story Time

This movement-based story time includes reading stories, singing familiar songs as well as learning new rhymes and songs with the librarian. For ages 3-5.

Baby-Toddler Story Time

An early literacy lap-sit program that combines sharing stories, songs, rhythm activities and baby bounces. A short socialization playtime follows the books and music program. For ages birth to 24 months.
