Preschool Story Time

Story time for ages 2-5 years. Free tickets are required for entry and can be obtained 10 minutes before the start of the program in the upstairs reading room. Have a group? Please call ahead of time to make special arrangements.

Toddler Story Time

Read, sing, dance and play in a fun story time program especially for toddlers; age 18 months to 3 years old. 

ASL Story Time

We will have a special ASL story time and craft as part of our Sunday Celebration.Join us for the story Caps for Sale.We will also have therapy dogs from People Animals Love available to "read" with children.  

A Dream To Share

Join us as we read picture books that explore Dr. King's positive vision of ideal citizenship and discuss how the work of Dr. King and many other brave people permitted young Ruby Bridges to attend school wherever she chose.

Peanut Butter Lovers Month: 'Peanut Butter and Jelly'

Enjoy a PB & J story time and make your own peanut and butter sandwich.

Fairy Tale Party

Enter the land of pixie dust and spread your sparkle at our fairy party in the Children's Department on the second floor.  Come dressed in your favorite fairy finery to hear magical stories, design your own set of wings to wear, create a fairy house and more.  For ages 5 years and older.  For more information, contact the Children's Department at 202-727-1248.

Peanut Butter Lovers Month Activities

Nov. 4: It’s For the BirdsCome in for a story time and make a bird/squirrel feeder with an ice cream cone, peanut butter and seeds.Nov. 14: Peanut Butter and JellyEnjoy a PB&J story time and make your own peanut butter and jelly sandwich.Nov. 27: Pre-Thanksgiving Peanut Butter and Apple PurgeGet the kids out of the house. Be sure to send your in-laws to the library for a peanut butter extravaganza where the kids will make peanut butter cup-dipped apples and the adults can enjoy a Peanut Butter Cup Caramel Latte.
